Sexually transmitted diseases have been on the rise for many years.This is contributed by the irresponsible sexual activity in our society today.It has lead to the creation of an STD awareness month that happened during the Congressional Resolution in 2009.

This month was meant to help in raising awareness and help in fighting them. Did you know that April is STD awareness month?Statistics show that young adult from the age of 15 to 24 are the most affected.

What are the different types of STD?

They include: Gonorrhea, Syphilis, HIV/AIDS, Genital Herpes and Warts, Chlamydia, or trichomoniasis.

About HIV/AIDS

This is the most popular STD. Unlike other STD it has no cure but can be mitigated for one to live positively with it. A the patient is given Anti Retroviral Drugs that help in reducing the effects of the disease. ARVs are the drugs given to a patient to help them normally live by controlling its effects to the body.

To avoid the spread one has to use the drugs, eat healthily and avoid intercourse with infected partners. It can be transmitted during sex, blood transfusion or from mother to child.

A mother can infect an unborn child in the womb or during breastfeeding if proper caution is not considered.Women who is breastfeeding can only give their infant’s breast milk exclusively for six months without anything else even including water?

Be on the safe side by using condoms during sex and ensuring pregnant mothers go for anti-natal clinics and give birth in hospital to help prevent the young one.

Gonorrhea

Gonorrhea is increasingly being tested positive in most STDs cases in health facilities. The good news is that most bacterium that causes it is treatable the only one that has proven resistant to medication. It can cause infertility to both men and women if not treated. Using a condom or a dental dam can help in preventing one from contracting the bacteria.

All About Syphilis

If syphilis is not treated it can cause so much harm in the body like brain damage that may cause madness. .It can be spread through oral, anal or genital sex. The above are just among the common ones, but that doesn’t mean that the rest occur on rare occasions.

Examining the symptoms, testing and treatment of STD

Testing can be done in an accredited health facility. Blood, urine or swab samples are drawn from the patient and tested. Whether it is a positive or negative result be sure to follow doctors’ orders in order to live healthy and well.
